Fiercely Competitive: Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand Dominate the Provisional Medal Standings at AUG XXI 2024
SURABAYA —The ASEAN Member State student Sports or ASEAN University Games XXI 2024 which competed in 21 sports entered on the third day. Based on the results of the matches on Thursday, July 27, 2024, at 10:00 PM WIB, the host contingent, Indonesia, leads the temporary standings.
The Indonesian contingent collect 26 gold, 21 silver, and 9 bronze medals. Thus, the total number of medals obtained by the red and white team is 56.
The second position in the AUG XXI 2024 standings is occupied by Malaysia with a total of 21 medals. They have secured 8 gold, 4 silver, and 9 bronze medals.
In third place is Thailand, also known as the Land of Elephants, with a total of 15 medals. These include 4 gold, 7 silver, and 4 bronze medals. With a difference of 2 Gold Medal, Vietnam continues to chase Thailand in fourth position.
Vietnam collected 2 gold and 2 bronze medals. Based on the current progress of the matches, Vietnam continues to catch up with Thailand. while Thailand is pursuing Malaysia for the second position.
The fifth position is Cambodia with 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal. Following them is Laos with 1 gold and 2 bronze medals, and Brunei Darussalam with 1 gold.
In eighth place, Singapore has secured 8 silver and 10 bronze medals. Next is Myanmar with 2 silver medals, and the Philippines with 1 bronze medal. The Timor Leste contingent remains determined to win medals, currently standing in eleventh place in the standings.
The PIC of AUG XXI 2024, Prof. Nurhasan, familiarly known as Cak Hasan, mentioned that by the third day of the competition, around 42 medals had already been won by each contingent. This means that there are still around 208 medals up for grabs in the coming days.
"From what I have observed, the competition is very fierce, all the contingent teams compete with each other to the best of their abilities. Although fierce, all still show sportsmanship on the court," he said when attending the awarding of tennis sports at the tennis court, FIKK UNESA Campus 2 tongue Wetan, Thursday (27/6/2024).
