Athletic Sports Hold the Most Numbers: 11 Countries Compete Tightly, Olympic Athletes Roll Up Their Sleeves
SURABAYA—The athletics competition that brings together eleven countries with a fiery competitive spirit and spectacular actions in each match number officially starts on July 2, 2024, and ends on July 5, 2024. This event is held on the athletic field, Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, UNESA. includes 42 competition numbers, from running, jumping, to throwing.
In an interview session, Queenie Ting Kung Ni expressed her feelings after winning a gold medal in the Women's Discus Throw. He felt very happy because this was Malaysia's first gold medal in athletics and felt very excited to take part in AUG. This is also the first time Queenie has come to Indonesia to compete.
Queenie praised the preparation of the training ground and discus throwing location which she said was very adequate for the competition. "Training to prepare for the AUG competition has started since January," he said. He admitted that the biggest challenge came from Indonesian athletes. "I felt a little overwhelmed against them," he added.
However, Queenie hopes to be more consistent in her technique and plans to perform even better at the SEA Games next year. "I hope to meet again with the athletes here, and if I meet again, this will be the best time to show my best," he concluded.
Halomoan Edwin Binsar Simanjuntak, the Garuda athlete who won a gold medal after recording the fastest time, beating strong competitors from Malaysia and Thailand in the men's 400-meter hurdles event, revealed that today's match was quite extraordinary with strong opponents.
"This is my last AUG, and the hardest thing is to control myself not to be lazy in training, while the opponents are both practicing, so I already know what kind of competency my opponent has, so far my preparations for this AUG have been quite thorough, because later "I will also compete in PON in 2 months. I always hope that I can do better to make my province and country proud," said the athlete from West Java.
Muhammad Fahmi, the Malaysian athlete who managed to bring home gold for his country, revealed that this was the first time he had won a gold medal in the 200M running event after 2 years, "I am grateful, I feel extraordinary and very happy because I can win a gold medal especially when I get the opportunity to give gold to Malaysia," he said.
Even though the preparation he did didn't take long, he was able to get results that were beyond his expectations, he felt happy for that. "I want to do better for the next match
He explained that the challenge he had was when he arrived in Surabaya where the temperature was very different from America (he studied in America), before that he also experienced jet lag "Because the journey from America to Malaysia takes up to 15 hours, to arrive in Malaysia I need "One week to cure jetlag, I also need to keep my body stable until AUG arrives and that is the biggest challenge for me."
His motivation for taking part in the AUG competency was based on his desire to compete in the Olympic Games in August, "The ASEAN University Games can be a training exercise for me to measure my abilities, of course I want to give the best for my country at the Olympics."
He also expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the next AUG, "I want to compete again at AUG, because this activity is not only for us but for all students in Asia"
Apart from that, the coach from Malaysia also expressed his joy at winning the medal, "I am very happy because Malaysia has succeeded in achieving more than the previous medal target of 10 gold medals." said Shahrul Nazli Ismail.
Then, Muhammad Zohri, the men's 100M gold medalist from Indonesia, said that this match was for him as training to take part in the Athletics Olympics which will be held in July - August this year.
"This is the last match before I
go to the Olympics, so I won't be surprised when I get there," he said
