SURABAYA– A total of 37 medals (gold) in the ASEAN University Games (AUG) Swimming sports were achieved by the delegation of six countries in the Swimming Pool of KONI East Java, Surabaya on Monday, 1 June 2024. Based on the results of the last competition, Indonesia as the host managed to collect 19 gold, 16 silver and 14 bronze.
The host's success was followed by Thailand's White Elephant country team who managed to collect 9 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze. Malaysia also collected 9 gold, 7 silver and 16 bronze. The acquisition of the Jiran State team is slightly different from the Thai team which makes the medal race fierce from the beginning to the final match.
In this sport, Singapore won 1 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze. Furthermore, Vietnam brought home 1 silver, and 1 bronze.
After presenting gold to the archipelago, Indonesian volleyball athlete, Andi Muhammad Nurrizka Febrianto expressed his feelings when he managed to get gold after his upset in the previous AUG.
"I am very proud and grateful to be able to win 3 gold and 2 bronze. While at AUG 2022, I had to be satisfied with only 1 silver and 3 bronze," he said.

Head coach of the red and white swimming team, Albert C. Sutanto revealed that his team's success in becoming the overall champion was in line with what they had predicted.
"We were very optimistic because we were able to exceed the initial gold medal target. But on the second day, we had doubts because we were only able to achieve two of the four gold targets. On the following days, we again managed to achieve the set targets," he said.
Albert also explained that the medal tally between male and female athletes was almost balanced although perhaps still slightly dominated by male athletes. In the backstroke numbers, both 50m, 100m, and 200m, the Indonesian swimming team is quite superior.
In addition, they are also strong in the men's 50m and 100m breaststroke, and 200m mixed medley. Indonesia also dominates in the free numbers, with six events, plus three relays.
In addition, Hii Puong Wei, the Malaysian silver medallist said that they have done their best for this AUG.

"We are satisfied with today's result, because we have tried our best, but athletes from different countries are very strong, especially Indonesia. So we have to settle for silver," he explained.
He also expressed his hope to continue competing in the upcoming AUG. He also hopes to win more medals in international events by training harder, studying and implementing the coach's advice so that there will be improvements in every exercise.
Similarly, Denphaetcharangkul, Thailand's 4x100M women's silver medallist, expressed her excitement after winning a medal.

"During the match I felt unwell so I couldn't try my best, and I also didn't expect to get a medal, but thank God I was able to get it even though my condition was unstable from the start," she explained.
