Fierce Handball Final, Malaysia Wins Over Singapore in Extra Time Round

SURABAYA–The AUG XXI 2024 futsal sport which took place at the Pertamina Sports Arena (GOR), Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) since 16 June 2024 finally closed on Sunday, 30 June 2024. The deciding match brought together the Malaysian and Singaporean squads who competed with each other's abilities from the minute beginning.

With only a few points separating them, both sides demonstrated their full potential. Singapore took the lead, scoring eleven points, followed by Malaysia with 9 points.
Singapore scored the opening goal in the second half of the contest. Both sides continued to try to score, but the final score was knotted at 22-22. The contest was extended to 2×5 minutes of extra time, which became increasingly intense.
In this extra time round, Malaysia's pivot position, You Wei Thye, scored the 28th point, securing his team's triumph. The match ended with a final score of 26-28 in favor of Malaysia.

The match ended with Malaysia's victory over Singapore. From the overall results of the match, the gold medal was won by the Malaysian team, silver was won by the Singapore team and the host team Indonesia won a bronze medal.
Chee Woon Chong, Malaysia's right back, expressed his satisfaction with his team's triumph in a post-match interview. He also thanked the coaches, family, friends, and all fans for their encouragement during the game.
He went on to say that the match was pretty intense, and they had disputes during it. Fortunately, the coaches were able to stabilize the situation and resume normal play. "The tension is really high on the field, I don't think this is a good thing and we have to practice to have trust in each other, thank you my team," he told reporters.

On the other hand, Singapore's captain, Edwin Chew, stated that the final match was fairly tight. Plus, the players were exhausted from battling for four days in a row.
"We gave the best game we could."It's disappointing not to have won gold, but the match versus Malaysia today provided us with many significant lessons and experiences," he remarked.
